two thumbs up

I do love a good story.

That's why two movies recently have left me extremely satisfied and wanting to encourage everyone to see them.

The first is Lake House with Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves. Granted, you have to jump in with both feet to believe in the story of two people separated by time. But, if you just hang in there and enjoy the ride, it's worth it! I appreciate the fact that a movie can still tell an incredible love story without going "all the way". There is a great deal of restraint and unselfishness in this film that is so hard to find in our contemporary culture.

The second film is One Night With the King, which I took my 13-year old niece and her friend to last night. This adaptation of the Esther story is the kind of film I wish we could see more often. I loved seeing some actors from Lord of the Rings Trilogy; there were bigger names in the movie than I thought there would be.

I also got a kick out of the actress who played Esther. She was innocent and childlike at the beginning and then matures and becomes this regal beauty at the end.

oh, I really fell head over heals for The Lake House. I just watched it this week while I was home sick. It was wonderful. I want to see "One Night with the King." You are the second person to say it was great. Did you read the book?

We loved The Lake House too! Those are our favorite kinds of romantic movies ... where you HAVE to suspend reality and just enjoy it. Great flick. We'll have to check out One Night With The King - thanks for the recommendation!

No, I didn't read the book, but I might have to go find it now.

The only thing that would've made it perfect would be the casting of Viggo Mortenson (Aragorn in Lord of the Rings) as the King. Awww yeah, that would've put it over the top.

I too loved The Lake House. I haven't seen One Night with the King, but one of my co-workers, Rob said that it was a good one. He took his Jr. High age son to it, and said that after they got home from the movie, his son went straight to his room to read the Esther story from the Bible!
